Pace converter

Convert the same running pace between minutes per kilometre and per mile.

Enter your pace in minutes and seconds, then select the unit it uses. See both equivalent paces side by side to compare a training plan, race target or watch setting written in the other unit. Save, share or print the result for reference.

For example, 5:00 per kilometre converts to about 8:03 per mile, describing the same running speed. Displayed paces round to the nearest second, while the calculation keeps full precision until the result is shown.

behind this tool.

Convert your running pace

  1. Enter your pace as minutes and seconds, such as 5:00.
  2. Choose the distance unit of that entered pace.
  3. Select Convert my pace to see the same pace in both units.
  4. Share, print or save the result as a PDF.

A worked example

  • 5:00 per kilometre is 8:03 per mile.
  • 9:00 per mile is 5:36 per kilometre.

How this tool works

Seconds per mile = seconds per kilometre x 1.609344. Convert in the reverse direction by dividing by 1.609344.

The exact mile definition comes from NIST. Calculations keep full precision and displayed paces round half up to the nearest second.

The unit switch identifies the pace you entered. It does not silently rewrite your pace text or apply a training adjustment.
